Ready to Learn

At The Fig Tree Children, we’re committed to ensuring that every child in our programme has the opportunity to learn, dream and build a brighter future through education. This year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, 85 children and young people are attending school or tertiary education.

Every child in our programme has a sponsor whose monthly gift helps cover school fees, learning materials, a monthly allowance for their carer, and the costs of running our education programme.

However, as education costs continue to rise, sponsorship alone is no longer enough to meet every expense.

School fees have increased. Uniforms, exercise books, stationery and school bags all cost more than they once did. We’ve also increased the allowance we provide to carers to help them cope with rising living costs. Rather than continually increasing our sponsorship amount, we’ve worked hard to keep sponsorship affordable so that as many children as possible can continue to benefit from the programme.

To bridge the gap, we rely on fundraising events, personal donations, Ambassadors and the generosity of people who choose to give a little extra.

As we prepare for the new school year, we’re also looking carefully at how we spend every dollar. Together with our Programme Management Team, Aminata and Massah, we’re reviewing where good-quality second-hand uniforms and school supplies can be used so that every donation stretches further and helps more children. We’re committed to being responsible stewards of the support you entrust to us.

Thanks to your generous donations, The Fig Tree Children has been able to significantly improve the lives of many children and families in Sierra Leone. Your support has provided essential educational resources, nutritious meals, and vital health supplies. Together, we are breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation to thrive.
